First Lady's Digital Currency Creators Hit with Pump-and-Dump Fraud Lawsuit
The developers behind a cryptocurrency released by First Lady of the United States Melania Trump have been charged in legal documents of executing a fraudulent operation.
Initial Launch and Price Surge
The $MELANIA coins were released for under a dollar each on the 19th of January, just prior to former President Trump assumed the presidency.
Alongside the Melania cryptocurrency, the former president launched his $TRUMP coin shortly prior to the inauguration ceremony.
Shortly after launch, the price of the $MELANIA cryptocurrency surged to nearly $14 per token.
Sudden Collapse in Price
Nevertheless, the value plummeted just as rapidly, and is now approximately a dime – less than a fraction of its maximum worth.
In parallel, the $TRUMP coin achieved a maximum of $45.47 and presently sells for approximately five seventy-nine.
Legal Allegations and Plaintiffs' Position
The investors claim that the token's architects planned the operation knowing that the token's worth would crash.
The First Lady herself is not included in the legal action. The plaintiffs indicated they do not think she was culpable, but alleged the crypto companies of leveraging her and other well-known personalities as a facade for their illegal activities.
Exchange Platform Role
In newly filed court papers, investors accuse leaders of the Meteora trading platform, where $MELANIA was originally listed, of setting up a scheme that allowed them to discreetly acquire substantial volumes of the digital token.
Their accomplices then quickly resold these digital currencies, earning significant gains while causing the value to crash, according to records entered in federal court in Manhattan.
Wider Proceedings
The claims regarding the Melania token have been included in judicial actions concerning various other virtual tokens, which commenced in April.
The Trump family has allegedly secured in excess of one billion dollars in pre-tax earnings from several digital currency-linked products and companies over the last year.
